Video of Protected Spring Groundbreaking

Sorry I referred to Campbell River Daybreak as "Sunrise". I had to make the little speech off the cuff, but all the key figures present were recognized. The village elder, RC Kakamega, RC Canada, locals, contractors, local government and KASFOOC. As casual as it may appear it was an important recognition event as well as a much-needed opportunity to meet for all participants. Plans were laid to organize the sanitation training component of the Global Grant. It was an excellent idea of RC Kakamega President Robertson that we have an opening ceremony; he gets full credit.

At the end of the video Matano of KASFOOC is translating the words of the village elder. Its a bit hard to hear, but the elder is saying that 18 of the springs (the first group of 18 we are building) will help 4-5000 people have access to clean water. 50 families will be helped, each family is on average about 10 people.

The local district officer arrived late and the Kakamegan Rotarians were able to emphasize the importance of the fact that all had agreed, in writing, that these springs were never to fall into private hands or be to the benefit of any one individual. I have a video of this discussion, but the sound is not good.

I am optimistic that we may complete alot of these springs before we return to Canada. KASFOOC is going to be very busy as they coordinate the contractors, the sanitation training and the fish farm training.
