WOWOWOW
Our minds have been blown. We land in Kisumu at a brand new airport opened 4 months ago. Like a real air port, not the wooden building with pretty lawn outside of 2009.
Then the drive to Kakamega is not 1:40 of bone jarring pothole dodging- its smooth and only takes 1 hour!
THEN we get into Kakamega. The number of cars and people looks to be double. There are two new malls in town- the first two ever. They have real food, eg gouda cheese. We are not sure if we are happy. This is going to be a very different experience.
Whats more we now have modems. I'm not sitting in a crowded internet cafe, but from our house. Our house has also gotten more modern. We have a toaster and a washing machine.
I went for my first run this morning. Out on my favorite route around the tea fields. New buildings going up everywhere. The run felt great.
Afterwards we met TEMBO and interviewed 20 candidates for vocational scholarship. Almost all these shortlisted youth will get scholarships precisely, and only, because friends of ours donated funds. Two young ladies will be able to attend auto mechanic school. Life changing, amazing. 5 sit on sidelines just in case more money shows up hoping to go to eg driver school.
After that we met with local Rotarians at their place of businesses to kickstart protected spring building. We meet with KASFOOC tomorrow morning to discuss fish farm projects.
Busy, hot , good day.
